Gods, Brisingr is boring.
"Jormundur wanted to increase Nasuada's guards but she didn't want to and he wanted 12 guards but she wanted 4 and in the end they settled on 6 with representations by various races BLAH BLAH BLAH."
The journey back from Helgrind seemed never-ending, and since he had already separated from Saphira for that one time, WHY must he mope about it when he had to leave her again JUST A FEW DAYS LATER?! What's the goddamn difference??
Granted, Tolkien did have his boring moments - I remember something like 17 pages about the shire's flowers or something like that in the first book of Lord of the Rings, but at least he wrote well. Brisingr, on the other hand, felt like something the author vomited out of his brains without bothering to edit it at all.
I bet he could have fit the rest of the trilogy in one book, if only he'd had a better, ruthless editor to force him to cut out the CRAP which made up most of the third book.
Unfortunately, I still have 250 pages or so more to go. Goddamn dithering dwarves.
